Sarah Goss

About the Artist

I am Sarah Goss, I am 15 years old, and I'm from Greenville, South Carolina. I was born in Tennessee, but I moved to Greenville when I was only 1. I have always loved art, so from a young age art has been my favorite class. I was in 3rd grade when I experimented with clay for the first time. We were assigned to create a coil pot with a face on it. I loved getting to create 3D art that looks good, but is also functional for everyday use. After 3rd grade I remember wanting to dive more into ceramics, and create beautiful useful artworks. When choosing my elective classes for my freshman year of high school, ceramics was a no brainer. Being older this time, I was able to gain much more creative freedom when making my pieces. We started off doing pinch pots and slab work, learning in depth how to create good quality art. My favorite forms to make are coil and scratch pots, they can be made into a variety of things from vases to bowls. I like them because I like how they are smooth and neat on the outside. I will definitely continue to take ceramics throughout the rest of high school.

Resume

Objective: I am working as a server right now, but I would ultimately want to own my own pottery studio. As a student I am in a ceramics class, learning techniques for pottery so one day I can use them and share with other people.
Experience: At my job, The Palmettos Assisted living,Mauldin, SC, Server, I serve the residents their breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After all the residents get their food I have to clean all of the tables and do the dishes. Lastly, I have to set up for the next meal, and make sure everything is put back into place for the next shift.
School: My first period at Mauldin High School is ceramics. I learn how to work with clay to make beautiful art pieces. My second period is Spanish, where I can learn how to speak to many more people, and am able to travel to some places and know how to speak their language. English is my third period, and my fourth period is chemistry. I can use both of those classes for the future in many ways.
Hobbies/Clubs: Key CLub-As a Key Club member I volunteer in the community. We need to have done 4 volunteer jobs. As of now I have only done one, but I will eventually do more. I volunteered as a cooking assistant for a BBQ tasting The BBQ tasting competition was a way to bring together the community, and eat good food.
Lacrosse- I have been playing lacrosse for 4 years now. I was on JV for 3 years, but I was pulled up to varsity this year. Lacrosse has given me a way to work out in a fun way. I have found amazing new friends, and have an amazing community of people I know will support me.
